Vimala Mahareddy is 25 years old and suffers from impaired speech and hearing. She has never been to school and always stayed at home doing domestic chores. As a result, Vimala lacks social skills. Vimala was brought to OEI by her parents who wanted her to learn skills to help her become self-employed. She was recruited to join OEI’s residential tailoring and embroidery training program. Initially, Vimala found it very difficult to adjust and interact with her peers. She struggled to even understand what was being taught in class, but with time, she made progress in all areas. In fact, she overtook all of her classmates. Presently, Vimala is first in her class! Everyone at OEI, along with her parents are amazed to see her excellent performance.
