OEI provides hostel care to rural youth and children with disabilities availing services that require several days to several months stay in the city.
Education is key to building the employment and life-skills capacity of young people with disabilities. For students in the rural areas quality education is challenging. Most quality schools from primary through university are in the cities. Operation Equip India provides a bridge for rural college students with disabilities who wish to attend colleges in the city of Hubli. The goal of these initiatives is for all students to successfully proceed to the next level of education, graduate and then enter into life-sustaining livelihoods.
The areas of Academics initiatives are:
- Residential care facility (Hostel) for both boys and girls to pursue studies at local colleges in the city.
- Educational scholarships, textbooks, and study materials for students with disabilities and or their dependants.
- Spoken English and Computer Training to develop additional skills.
- Career guidance and counselling
- Short term intensive one-month Computer Training program during summer vacations for high school and college students.
- Job placements
